USA East coast

Great start! We traveled from Montreal to Virginia by bus for 22 hours to avoid the Quebec winter. We have been received by Pam and Matt, 2 fans of cycling on "warmshower" for the first night. The adventure on our bicycles thus began at Virginia Beach 11 February 2009. The temperature was relatively good and we quickly began the cycling routine because several tourist attractions are closed at this time of year. A few mornings of frost has even surprised us a bit, but what beauty. Travelling by bicycle enables us to realize the great generosity of people. We should realize that it’s not only a camping site to spend the night, but church people have a very big heart and always have a piece of ground for the tent. They have even provided us with very good meals.

The road is rather easy on the coast, good beginning. We have entered into North Carolina, road almost enters the sea, first different landscapes from Quebec. We had to camp on prohibited locations because the land provided for this purpose was closed! Beautiful nights with the sound of the waves. Of Savannah, South Carolina, we have ridden a few tens of kilometers to reach Tybee Island and we have benefited from our first campsite. Delicious meals on the fire, how wonderful! We leave the coast across Georgia. Surprise! The road can be something other than flat; it’s up and down a little. Woo hoo! Then Florida (only North West because it’s too expensive this State) direction Panama City Beach. In full spring break! Another surprise also, to some Sunday place we cannot buy alcohol before 12: 00, OK but in some towns you can’t buy any alcohol at all! Need to know! This is still a good muscle relaxer. Rapidly done with Alabama and further on Mississippi. It is practically a swamp too, so you can imagine the pleasure of spending the evening with millions of mosquitoes! That is when we eventually find a little close place to install the tent. In New Orleans we spent a few days at Ray and Emily place in order to visit the city. Faithful to its reputation, we lived through the party... Without question everyone drinks in full view on the Street, the bars have more loud music, and compete with one another in a cacophonic competition.... Brief to see and live! There is everything to suit all tastes.

The following report, famous Texas! Sea again with slightly more warm weather. We have however been surprised by the still present damage left by IKE. What a hurricane it must have been! Some houses have only recently been reconstructed and we are on the beach route because much road is not yet useable. We have confronted our big first winds. There is a lot of farm on the Texas coast; there is therefore nothing to stop the wind. After mosquitoes, red ants... it doesn’t bite just a little! The desire to arrive in Mexico we pushed to pedal strong and long distances. We have still benefited from a few beautiful campsites and good BBQ meals.
